Democrats paint
Sarah Palin as an anti-Semite because she once supported Pat Buchanan
Stu Tarlowe
The latest smear tactic
by the Democrats is to paint Sarah Palin as an anti-Semite because she once
supported Pat Buchanan.
Congressman Robert Wexler of Florida (a self-described "Fire-Breathing
Liberal" who has called for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney) has gone
so far as to label Palin's nomination "an insult to all American Jews".
Well,
I'm an American Jew (albeit one of the relatively few who don't embrace
the Democrat Party), and I once admired Pat Buchanan for his unassailable
patriotism and for his grasp of how the culture war weakens us and threatens
our very future.
Only
when I learned that William Safire and William F. Buckley Jr. had both
concluded, "reluctantly", that Buchanan was an anti-Semite did I
temper my enthusiasm for Pat Buchanan. But his stands on domestic and moral
issues still make sense.
So
I'm not quite ready to buy the Democrat spin and jump on the "Jews
insulted by-, distrustful of Palin" bandwagon. I'm far more embarrassed
by the way most American Jews vote for Democrats when it is clearly the
Republicans (and American Christians!) who stand more steadfast in
support of Israel. I'm also embarrassed at the way Israel itself has
allowed Liberal appeasers to assume its "leadership".
And
don't get me started on the way most American Jews support efforts to
subvert the Second Amendment. The entire point of the Second Amendment is
that government is not to be trusted, and that, as a deterrent to the
tyranny of a government turning on its own citizenry, the government should
fear the citizenry rather than the other way around.
Who better than Jews should have learned that lesson? What could the
Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto -- who took on the Nazi war machine with sticks
and stones and improvised weapons -- have accomplished if they'd just had a
little more "hardware"?
So, if we're looking
for an insult (as too many ethnic and "special interest" groups seem to be
doing nowadays), whose candidacy is the real insult to Jews?
Which
is worse: That Sarah Palin once supported a man who (later!)
praised Adolf Hitler's "courage": or that Barack Obama attended, for 20
years, a church that gave Louis Farrakhan a "lifetime achievement award"?
And
is Pat Buchanan any more anti-Semitic and anti-Israel than Jimmy "I never
met a Commie despot I didn't like" Carter?
Are
Jews better off with a candidate who is loved by Carter, Farrakhan and
Hamas, and who is eager to "dialogue", without pre-conditions, with the
21st Century's would-be Hitler, Ahmadinejad?
This smear on Sarah Palin is an
attempt to keep McCain from carrying Florida, with its many Jewish voters.
It might work, given that they are already predisposed to vote Democrat.
But so far, the Jews of Alaska (yes,
there are said to be some 6000 of them!) have nothing but praise for Sarah
Palin. And I'd bet that Jews living on "The Last Frontier" have a better
grasp of reality and survival than those living in Palm Beach.
