Sebelius
for HHS
In a time
when conservatives and Republicans (for some odd reason, we go by both
names) need to organize and win a battle or two, it isn’t often that
DEMOCRATS hand us a freebie. But they did when Obama nominated Sebelius for
HHS.
There’s
enough ammo on Sebelius to knock her out cold before she even gets in front
of the committees that question her for confirmation. There is no need to
chronicle all that ammo here – radical abortion views, staunch partisanship,
lousy fiscal policy, soft on illegals, Tiller parties, energy and jobs,
multiple gaffes, etc. – you’ve heard it all before.
A win would
actually be a double win, because it would represent another in a long line
of Obama appointees who had to back out of their nominations due to personal
or political deficiencies. He lost ANOTHER ONE yesterday, and one today!.
His appointment record is dismal.
We got
handed a double win!
A FREE
double win!
So, what
are we doing?
Letting it
sail right by.
Way to go
Republicans!
The
pro-life community has launched a full-scale effort to keep her out. The
problem is, they don’t have enough media clout to accomplish their goal.
Some in the mainstream print media touched on the issue, and a few even
mentioned some Sebelius negatives, but even those reporters usually
mentioned her “positives” more prevalently in their articles.
One of the
key reasons Sebelius is considered fit for duty as HHS Secretary is that her
two pro-life home-state Republican US Senators immediately approved of her
nomination. Roberts and Brownback may have had the press release supporting
her written before Obama made the official announcement. It sure seemed like
it. Their reasons for supporting her are very weak, and if you’ve noticed,
they aren’t out there in the media defending those reasons.
Both
Senators claim long careers devoted to their pro-life positions, and one of
them can hardly speak without mentioning it. The other one stood on the
stage with her at the announcement of her nomination, even though every
thing he’s ever stood for is 180 degrees opposite of Sebelius. So, I have to
ask: “What is going on?”
Why aren’t
we going after these two Senators for blatant hypocrisy and for throwing an
opportunity to win in the toilet? We should be. Problem is – no one in our
local media will get behind it. No one on TV. No one on radio. No one in the
paper.
One guy on
local radio is going after Brownback, but he won’t touch Roberts. Go figure.
He’s the same guy who builds statues honoring McCaskill for voting NO on the
Omnibus Spending Bill in the Senate this week, while slamming Roy Blunt
every day (even though Blunt voted NO on the exact same bill when it was in
the House). And that’s from our resident conservative (who is a hero
compared to the rest of the KC "talkers"). No wonder we lose elections and
policy issues. At this rate, we’ll get Carnahan for Missourah Senator next
year.
Our local
media has the advantage of Kansas listeners (i.e. VOTERS) who could possibly
sway Roberts and Brownback to stick with their principles. Laura Ingram has
covered it, on the national level, but she can’t do it alone. O’Reilly even
covered it for a night or two. But the local media are the ones that should
be after this. Every Republican or truth-lover in the local media should be
all over this story and all over the Kansas Senators – BOTH of them. Local
interest might even make it a national story again, adding to the pressure
on Brownback and Roberts. Local media people need to get these guys on the
air, and if they refuse, that needs to be publicized.
There is
still time. But time is short. And this free double-win won’t just happen by
itself. Write those Senators. Call the radio and TV stations. Forget the
Star – they are too far gone. BOTH Brownback and Roberts need to step up and
oppose Sebelius for HHS. Either one, alone, won’t do the trick. PRESSURE is
the only way.
Otherwise,
Sebelius and Obama will together run about one-fourth of our spending, and
with a healthcare bill, it will go higher. I know folks in Kansas want her
gone, but the REST OF US in the USA do not deserve the kinds of radical
mistakes she made in the Sunflower State. HHS will soon be ONE TRILLION
DOLLARS per year of spending.
Of course,
we could just let her slide right in to the post and just keep harping about
earmarks for the next four years, day after day after day. That’s proven to
be a winning strategy. Didn’t McCain start fighting pork about 10 years ago?
Look where it got him.
Low hangin’
fruit? Low hangin’ curveball? Whatever you want to call it, it’s right
there, right now, right in front of our faces, and we are ignoring it. That
is very sad.
